A three-part communication training programme to help experts translate complex data into persuasive stories.

Make the case for increased funding. Create sticky healthcare messages. Build trust and confidence while maintaining your values.
Persuade with story and statistics, because data alone does not move an audience. Master engaging science communication.
Explain uncertainty to patients and clinical audiences. Maximise the 10-minute window you have with your client, HCP or interviewer.
Translate technical ideas into stories that anyone can understand. Build messaging that is consistent, persuasive and supports your goals.
The same issues come up again and again. “We find it hard to tell stories”. “Our team don’t know how to present to the public or to peers at a conference”. “I end up just reading from the slides”.
None of that is a personality problem. It is a gap in training that nobody in a technical career is ever sent on. We believe this is a fundamental failing of education and career development that needs to be urgently addressed.
Storytelling, how we bring people with us, is a skill that can be learnt.

Story Studio is a three-episode communication training programme for all sorts of experts from research, academia, clinical and technical backgrounds. It is taught in person or online by broadcaster and master trainer Jonathan McCrea. It gives each person in a team a clear understanding of their story, a structure for delivering it and practice doing so, so that the work itself gets understood and valued by the public, partners, patients, funders or clients who decide what happens next.

The exact words and structures needed to turn complex facts into compelling arguments. In this session, you'll discover why emotion is the goal of any presentation.

The Should Statement, PIP and PEP, the Pyramid Principle to messaging. These core tools prepare you for any speaking engagement, whether it's a keynote, a pitch or an interview.

Why does some content just not land? Audience barriers, the 70/30 rule, reading the room, and difficult questions. This session is all about ensuring your messages are heard.
The Content Tool is the one page prep kit our participants keep using years later. What is the behaviour change that you’re looking for... and how do you achieve it?
“Jonathan is a masterful and engaging presenter. He gave us tangible tools that we can immediately use in our work. A terrific programme that we plan to model throughout our team.”
COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR, GLOBAL MEDICAL DEVICES
One clear sentence that explains why they do what they do. This is their North Star.
Two approaches to turn experiences, knowledge and insight into powerful stories, step by step.
Our content tool is based on the Pyramid Principle and best practices to gain real behaviour change.
A three part framework for the question they dread, and a way to read the room while they answer it.
“The training was an extremely valuable use of my time. It increased my confidence, the structure of my talk and how I communicate my science.”
PROF LYDIA LYNCH, HARVARD AND TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN
“Jonathan brought our executive team through really insightful sessions, leaving us with a simple set of tangible and useful learnings which we applied immediately.”
DAVID SHACKLETON, CEO, DING
“Story Studio is not a standard communications training programme. I have seen researchers who were initially hesitant to get involved, or who used too much technical information, develop the confidence to speak with greater clarity, engagement and enthusiasm.”
CATRIONA BOYLE, SENIOR SCIENCE COMMUNICATION OFFICER, TEAGASC
“I was able to answer the questions with confidence, even when the reviewers were tough. The training was incredibly helpful for the interview but I will also use the learnings to communicate my science better in general.”
ASSOC PROF, UNIVERSITY OF GALWAY, AFTER AN ERC INTERVIEW
“The course gave me the confidence to accept the offer to do the lecture. I had only hoped that your course would improve my communication skills, I had never considered it would develop my leadership skills.”
DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY, MAYNOOTH UNIVERSITY
Delivered to Diageo, Edwards, RCSI, Teagasc, Trinity College Dublin, University of Galway, UCD, Bank of Ireland Life and the Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland.

Each episode comes with exercises to develop skills further at home.
